    • NoHAB NSB Di 3
    • De hogyan kezdődött?
    • Doodlebug (rail car): “General Electric (“GE”) was the pioneer of gas-electric railcars: GE in February, 1906 rebuilt a wood passenger coach into a gas-electric unit which was placed in trial service on the Delaware and Hudson Railroad.[4] The St. Louis–San Francisco Railway was an early adopter of this technology, placing an initial order for ten gas-electric units in 1910 and seven additional by 1913, giving it the distinction of having the largest fleet of gas-electric motor cars in the country. The petroleum-electric drive control system invented in 1914 by Hermann Lemp, an engineer with GE, became the technological foundation of self-propelled gasoline railcars in the 1920s.“
    • Electro-Motive Diesel: “Electro-Motive Diesel traces its roots to the Electro-Motive Engineering Corporation, a designer and marketer of gasoline-electric self-propelled rail cars founded in 1922 and later renamed Electro-Motive Company (EMC). In 1930, General Motors purchased Electro-Motive Company and the Winton Engine Co., and in 1941 it expanded EMC’s realm to locomotive engine manufacturing as Electro-Motive Division (EMD).”
    • The EMD F7 is a 1,500 horsepower (1,100 kW) Diesel-electric locomotive produced between February 1949 and December 1953 by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors (EMD) and General Motors Diesel (GMD).

  • BMW – The Bullshit Generator spins on #LEVEL99999
    • BMW Says Tesla’s Electric Vehicle Dominance Is Over (Apr 19, 2022): „BMW has ambitious plans for electric vehicles, projecting that at least one of every two sales by 2030 will be fully electric. As its sales grow, the German automaker intends to challenge Tesla’s dominance of the US electric vehicle market. As a reminder, Tesla ended the Bavarian company’s reign over the US luxury car market last year. (According to Cox Automotive, Tesla sold nearly 16,000 more cars than BMW in the US in 2021, regardless of fuel type.)This year, BMW aims to sell 200,000 EVs globally, doubling last year’s deliveries. While that’s still far from Tesla’s more than 930,000 sales in 2021 and likely 1 million+ sales in 2022, BMW executives appear confident that Tesla will lose its competitive advantage.”
    • Some new BMWs will need a software update to get Wi-Fi, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay (May 9, 2022): BMW is temporarily shipping some new vehicles without support for Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Wi-Fi after changing chip suppliers. The chips from the new supplier need a software update to make Android Auto and CarPlay accessible through the Android / Apple interface. According to BMW spokesperson Phil Dilanni, this doesn’t affect any vehicles in the US or Canada.“The chips built into these cars in the first four months of this year need updated software in order to be fully functional and offer Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and Wi-Fi capability,” Dilanni said in an emailed statement to The Verge. “Rather than delay production / handover of these cars until work on the software update was completed, we have been delivering the cars to customers with the information that Apple/Android and Wi-Fi will become available via an update by end of June at the latest.””
  • BEZZEG A TESLA!
    • Tesla rewrote its own software to survive the chip shortage (Jul 26, 2021): ““We were able to substitute alternative chips, and then write the firmware in a matter of weeks,” Musk said. “It’s not just a matter of swapping out a chip; you also have to rewrite the software.”This approach has helped Tesla maintain high levels of production, delivering over 200,000 vehicles to customers over the course of the last three months, the company said. Tesla generated $11.9 billion in revenue in the quarter, including $1.1 billion in profit.”
