A nyári dupla epizódunk első része.

- UN court opinion on climate change could boost scrutiny of Canada’s major projects: expert
- This week, the world’s top court declared that climate change is an “urgent and existential” threat to all forms of life, declaring that a “clean, healthy and sustainable environment” is a fundamental human right under international law, and that failure by states to curb greenhouse gas emissions—through production, subsidies, or lack of regulation—may constitute an internationally wrongful act.

- Renewable Power Generation Costs in 2024 – The latest cost analysis from IRENA shows that renewable continued to represent the most cost-competitive source of new electricity generation in 2024.

- UN says booming solar, wind and other green energy hits global tipping point for even lower costs – The global switch to renewable energy has passed a “positive tipping point” where solar and wind power will become even cheaper and more widespread, according to two United Nations reports released Tuesday, describing a bright spot amid otherwise gloomy progress to curb climate change.
- Despite the UN’s declaration of a renewable energy tipping point, the picture looks starkly different south of the border. In a sharp reversal, the U.S. is pulling back support for renewable, as the Trump administration phases out key solar and wind subsidies, with analysts warning these policy shifts could slash solar and wind installations by 17% to 20% over the next decade and push household electricity bills up by about $280 annually by 2035. And thanks to a 12% surge in U.S. coal use during the first half of the year, global coal demand is expected to hit a new record in 2025, despite China using less of it.

- Canada has a choice: “The federal government is evaluating its EV availability standard, which requires 20% of new vehicles to be electric by 2026 (with additional targets in 2030 and 2035). But while foreign automakers push for its repeal, it’s important that Canada stand firm against such pressure, as maintaining the mandate is crucial for not only Canada’s long-term climate goals, but lasting affordability and building supply chains for the future.
“The solution is not to slow down – that would mean phasing out Canada’s automaking sector completely. The solution is to build a Canadian auto industry that can compete globally.”“- One path is managed decline. Stay tied to a Trump policy, double down on internal combustion engines as the rest of the world races ahead with more competitive, better technologies, and watch jobs and investment flow out as Canada remains an exporter of raw materials.
- The other path is leadership. Build a domestic EV supply chain, boost affordability and attract global investment. We have the resources, talent and know-how to be a global EV leader – from mining and battery manufacturing to vehicle assembly and charging infrastructure. This isn’t an easy path, but it’s the one that builds Canada’s autonomy, resilience and long-term security.
